Homework Policy for Team 5

Please plan on your child studying for approximately 45 minutes per night during the school week. Set the time aside for quiet studying, even if your child says they don't have any homework. They can always study spelling, work on math facts, personal read, and practice cursive. Getting into a nightly routine can often avoid conflicts.

Personal Reading Calendar

Each student should be reading a minimum of 450 minutes per month at home. This averages 15 minutes per day. Students should be recording their minutes on a calendar. If they lose the calendar we provide, they may use one from home. At the end of the month, total the number of minutes read and sign the calendar. Students need to sign the calendar, too.

Genre of the Month

Each month students are required to read a particular genre, or type, of book. September's Genre of the Month is nonfiction. Students will also complete a project to correspond with the genre. Teachers will discuss the projects with the students. Genres for the year are:

October - Realistic Fiction

November - Free Choice

December - Biography / Auto-biography

January - Historical Fiction

February - Free choice

March - Mystery

April - Animal (fiction or non-fiction)

May - poetry
