Professional Learning Communities are made up of teams of teachers engaged in analyzing student data, establishing targeted interventions and conducting action research in order to help students achieve at high levels. PLC teams focus their efforts using these four questions:
Professional Learning Communities require time in order for such dialogue to occur. Research clearly indicates that effective collaboration, focused on improving student learning, must happen through structured processes that are separate from traditional teacher planning time. These collaborative teams need an extended period of time in order to focus on individual student needs, group assessment results and instructional practices which will make an even larger impact on student learning. Nine dates have been designated for teachers throughout the district to meet in Professional Learning Communities this school year. In order to help families plan ahead, the PLC schedule is outlined below:
August 28
September 25
October 30
November 27
January 29
February 26
March 18
April 29
May 27
School will dismiss 80 minutes early on the last Tuesday students are in session each month (except December). At Fredstrom School we will use the following schedule:
Grades 1 - 5 8:15-1:33
Kdg. A.M. 8:15-10:29
Kdg. P.M. 11:19-1:33
We recognize that an early release on these days may require families to make adjustments and special arrangements. We hope all families will be able to make arrangements for child care in order for students to be safe. Please be assured that this time is very valuable for our teachers to work together to help each student be a better learner. We appreciate your support of our teachers in this very import work. Please contact us at 436-1140 with any questions or concerns.
